Renewable EnergyYes to renewable energy, no to intrusive windfarmsAnne-Marie is campaigning against plans to cover Northumberland with huge and imposing wind farms. The former Labour Government’s Renewable Obligation Contract (ROC) scheme has led to developers taking the easiest and most profitable route of investing in onshore turbines rather than in offshore solutions. Anne-Marie is campaigning for a change to a subsidy system that discourages innovative energy solutions. ![]() Onshore windfarms are not the right answer for North Northumberland Anne-Marie believes that we need to do things differently by creating viable offshore renewable energy solutions. This may mean ensuring that the National Grid constructs accessible undersea cabling on the coast, alongside a “Smart Grid” investment that makes offshore wind farms cost effective. Labour failed to tap into the engineering and manufacturing potential of the North East. Anne-Marie believes that we cannot wait any longer for a strategic plan to promote a low carbon economy and protect our landscapes. In 2009 Anne-Marie visited the New and Renewable Energy Centre in Blyth with Greg Clark MP, then Shadow Minister for Energy. Anne-Marie, Greg and Centre staff discussed Conservative plans for a decentralised energy revolution based on the local, low carbon micro-generation of energy. ![]() Anne-Marie and Greg Clark MP at NaREC in Blyth |
