Anne-Marie Trevelyan, MP for Berwick-upon-Tweed, has welcomed today’s announcement from the Department for Culture, Media and Sport that Longhorsley Juniors FC in her constituency is to receive £25,000 from the Government’s multi-sport grassroots facilities programme.
The funding comes from a £25million pot announced at the 2021 Spring Budget, aimed at investing in grassroots sports facilities across the UK, focusing on pitch and facility improvements that would enable widening participation.
The £25,000 for Longhorsley Juniors FC is to enable the refurbishment of the pavilion and install floodlights.
Speaking of the funding Anne-Marie said:
“I am delighted that Longhorsley Juniors FC has been awarded this government funding. Investment in grassroots sports is so important, and I know the new floodlights will mean they can train all year round. I look forward to going to see the new facilities for myself in due course.”
