Northumberland Conservatives are running their annual Christmas toy collection with all donations going to the Salvation Army to distribute to children in the north east. This is the fourth year that Anne-Marie Trevelyan and Guy Opperman have run this social action campaign. These gifts are given to children in any age group, from 2-18 years that would otherwise go without a toy on Christmas Day.Shoppers are being urged to buy one more toy and donate it to the appeal. Last year, generous Northumbrians, helped to contribute 483 toys. Anne-Marie Trevelyan, Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Berwick said: “This year we hope to be even more successful as it is the fourth year of the appeal. The response so far has been outstanding, with gifts including playsets, cuddly toys and action figures as well as toiletries for teenagers.“Every toy we collect makes an enormous difference to the Christmas experience of the poorest children living in our region. I would like say a huge thank you to all those who have managed to buy one more toy for our campaign.”This year the appeal is being sponsored for the second time by North East toy company Micro Scooters www.micro-scooters.co.uk. Over 1,180 toys have been collected since the appeal started in 2011. Anyone willing to donate a toy can do so at any time at the Conservative Office in Alnwick, Hexham or Westerhope in Newcastle. Alternatively call 01665 602106 or email anne-marie@dualthea1.com to arrange collection.
