Local MP and Energy Minister, Anne-Marie Trevelyan, paid a visit to Purdy Lodge on the A1 to see their bank EV charging points for Tesla electric vehicles.
Anne-Marie was met by Jim and Jackie Davidson and their son John. Anne-Marie was shown the bank of charging point and heard about the challenges during the installation, they are expecting a further two point to be installed shortly.
Anne-Marie said "This is a great asset for those who travel regularly on the A1, and I congratulate Jim Davidson and his family for having these charging points installed.
"As part of the Prime Minister’s ten point plan, which I lead on in Government, we announced a phase out of the sale of new petrol and diesel cars and vans by 2030, and, from 2035, all new cars and vans must be zero emissions at the tailpipe. These ambitions will be supported by an accompanying package of £2.8 billion, with up to £1 billion to support the electrification of UK vehicles and their supply chains, £1.3 billion to accelerate the roll out of charging infrastructure and £582 million for plug in vehicle grants.
"Government funding for infrastructure has helped achieve the strong progress seen to date. In partnership with local authorities and private sector investment, we have seen over 150,000 chargepoints installed in homes, over 13,000 at workplaces and 20,000 in public places including over 3,900 rapid chargers.
"Our vision is to have one of the best electric vehicle infrastructure networks in the world. This means a network for current and prospective electric vehicle drivers that is affordable (which I know is a key concern!), reliable, accessible and secure."
