Anne-Marie Trevelyan, the MP for Berwick-upon-Tweed has met with the Prime Minister, David Cameron to discuss two of her major campaigns; on the A1 and broadband.
Following a breakfast meeting, Anne-Marie Trevelyan, who founded and directs the 'Dual the A1' and 'Broadband4Northumberland' campaigns, spoke with the Prime Minister in the Cabinet room at No 10, asking for his support to get full rural broadband completed and for her proposal to rename the A1(M) to Newcastle as the M1.
She said; "Myself and other rural MPs have set up the Rural Broadband All-Party Parliamentary Group and met with the Prime Minister to discuss our plans to ensure that the remaining 5-10% of properties, located in some of the most remote and far flung corners of England, get access to super-fast broadband as soon as possible".
Anne-Marie Trevelyan, also took the opportunity to discuss her campaign for full dualling of the A1 to Edinburgh and her new proposal; "Now that the road from the M18 all the way to Newcastle is motorway standard, it deserved to be part of the motorway system so I will push hard for this categorisation upgrade with the department of transport." She added; "both the Prime Minister and the Chancellor, has demonstrated their commitment to listen to, and act upon, the needs of our rural communities and are continuing to progress with impact plans for the Northern Powerhouse"
