Anne-Marie surveyed Berwick residents to find out where they think the town’s new coach park should be located. The survey, carried out with the support of Northumberland County Council and Berwick Town Council, outlined three options: to use part of the Castlegate car park, to use all of the Chapel Street car park, or to locate coaches on the Parade car park.
Hundreds of Berwick residents completed the survey, and the overwhelming favourite was the Castlegate option, chosen by 88% of respondents. Residents cited the existing facilities for visitors and its proximity to the main attractions of the town as the reasons behind their choice.
Anne-Marie said: “I am delighted we had such a good response – the people of Berwick are invested in the future of the town and I am pleased they are as keen as I am to attract tourists and to promote our shops. They have made a clear choice which I will be feeding in to the Council to help them finalise their decision.”
The Chapel Street option attracted only 5% of the votes and the Parade car park 7%. A total of 415 responses were received within the first month of the survey.
