Day 5: E is for Excitement at Eshott
Just when you think you know what's going to happen next, the political world ensures you are surprised! That's what happened on Wednesday evening when I got a call from No 10 asking if there might be a suitable location for the PM to start her campaign coach UK tour from. I was so pleased to be able to suggest Eshott Airfield which fulfilled their technical and security needs. And so at lunchtime today the Prime Minister Theresa May gave a great speech in front of the national press and my hundred most committed volunteers and our new councillors.
These big events in a general election calendar take huge organisation and a willingness for everyone involved to drop everything else in order to make them happen. I am always so impressed by the teams of police who roll into action to ensure everyone's safety. And a special mention to the dog handling team from Northumbria Police, and my favourite Dog of the Day so far, Millicent (or Millie to her friends) who gave us a special demonstration of her skills. Such a wonderful bond between master & dog.
As a result of our important visitor, we did less canvassing than normal, but were able to spend some time in Embleton- a delightful village by the sea- and were pleased to hear from
residents of all political hues about how much they admire/respect/like/love Theresa. Its a truly extraordinary election in that voters of all colours are turning to vote May.
