Anne-Marie Trevelyan, MP for Berwick-upon-Tweed, paid a visit to Berwick Rangers Football Club this week, to find out more about the new Academy the Club is launching ahead of the start of the new academic year.
Mrs Trevelyan, who is a paid-up member of the Berwick Rangers Supporters Club, took the opportunity to catch up with the Club’s management and meet some of the academy applicants.
The Club, in partnership with Northumberland College, is forming the Berwick Rangers Football Academy. Students of The Academy will be based at the Shielfield Park ground four days a week and will enjoy coaching from the Club’s coaching team, as well as studying for their Sport Diploma Levels 2 or 3. Modules will include coaching, training, tactics and fitness. The Academy team itself will play in the Association of Colleges League against regional colleges from across the North East.
Mrs Trevelyan said: “It was great to meet some of the youngsters hoping to be signed up to the Academy. As a Club supporter, I am delighted the Club is working towards developing the skills of young players, some of whom will hopefully play for the first team one day!”
The Academy course will also enable those who complete it to progress to university for those who find it sparks a desire to seek further sports qualifications.
Those hoping to apply should contact simon.dutson@northland.ac.uk for more information or browse the Club's website HERE.
