Anne-Marie Trevelyan, the Conservative parliamentary candidate for Berwick and small business campaigner has welcomed new figures showing that the number of private sector businesses in the North East has increased by around 27,000 over the past four years.
At the start of 2014, for the first time ever there were over 5 million private sector businesses across the UK. This is a record annual increase of 333,000 businesses, or 7 per cent, since the start of 2013.
There are now over three quarters of a million more private sector businesses than there were in 2010.
Anne-Marie Trevelyan commented:
‘”These are extremely encouraging figures for everyone who wants to work hard, get on in life and be rewarded for their efforts. They show that our long-term economic plan is working, helping new businesses to create jobs for hardworking taxpayers, providing them with the peace of mind that comes from a steady job and the prospect of a brighter future. More businesses mean more jobs, and more jobs mean that more people have the security of a regular pay packet - and can plan for the future with security.”
Anne-Marie Trevelyan, has been touring and advocating for small businesses in the area, working with them to get young staff through the apprenticeships scheme and raising awareness of the Chancellor George Osborne's cut in National Insurance for the first £2,000 for the employer which means that a small business can now take on another employee with much less cost. She added;
“I am a huge supporter of our local shops and am launching my Independent Retailers Challenge this year so we can showcase even more excellent small businesses which are the lifeblood of many local jobs”.
Anne-Marie Trevelyan will also be supporting Small Business Super Saturday on 6th December.
