Anne-Marie Trevelyan, MP for Berwick-upon-Tweed, has welcomed the Prime Minister's offer to EU citizens already living in the UK to be able to stay here once the UK has left the European Union.
The EU has not yet made any such reciprocal gesture for UK citizens living in other EU nations, but the Prime Minister hopes they will now do so, in order to offer some comfort and reassurance to people about their futures.
Anne-Marie said: "The Prime Minister had always been clear that providing certainty for EU citizens in the UK was one of her top priorities, and she has been true to her word, making this expansive offer despite the EU having made no such commitment to UK nationals living in other EU states. I am delighted we have provided certainty and clear guidance for all those EU nationals living and working in the UK, so they can feel a sense of stability about their futures here."
The Government has published a detailed policy proposal on the rights for EU nationals living here, as well as details of how the new system will work, which is attached below.
